Peter Frampton’s guitar was thought destroyed in a fiery plane crash 31 years ago.

The video is a short CBS summary, but you can follow the actual thread on the MLP guitar forum where the photos were first posted, to much skepticism, and then the experts start dissecting it from just a few pics and finally Wilko ID’s it as Peter’s guitar. Later, that proved to be true. A cool story and it was fun to have followed that thread as it happened, and then find out later that it really was Peter’s guitar. via @peterframpton

In My Time Of Dying

A while back I posted a link to a video from the O2 concert where Jimmy uses his custom shop ES-350 for In My Time of Dying. Over time, I’ve really come to like the song better with this guitar’s tone as opposed to the Danelectro used so often on stage. So much so in fact, I recently acquired a Gibson 1960 ES-350 T and it sure is fun learning and playing this song on it.

Also, this song is a great demonstration of how Zeppelin truly were greater than the sum of the parts. In this case; Bonham. No other drummer would have played so hard, and with such tone (especially the snare) and those syncopated beats during the wonderful Jimmy D7-D13#11 part. The drums absolutely take the song to another level. And while I’m on it, who else but Jimmy would’ve come up with D7-D13#11 part which is so different and wonderfully dissonant compared to the entire feel of the song up to that point.
