Apple’s Massive Numbers And Some Context
Simply looking over the numbers, it might be hard to wrap your head around what Apple just announced for their Q1 2012 results. A company this big is not supposed to be able to nearly double revenue year-to-year. Nor are they supposed to more than double profit. But Apple did both. The numbers are so big that they almost seem like they should be typos… So perhaps it’s best to point out some bigger numbers and to frame some of them in ways to make them easier to understand.

The rise and fall of personal computing. A fascinating analysis by Horace Dediu.

If iOS and Android are added as potential substitutions for personal computing, the share of PCs suddenly collapses to less than 50%. It also suggests much more collapse to come.

Read his article and see the charts.

Money Where Mouth Is

parislemon:

Apple’s newest board member, Disney CEO Bob Iger, just bought $1 million worth of shares on the open market.

Sure, perhaps not much for him in the grand scheme of things. But a million dollars is still a million dollars. And he’s clearly sending a message. Likely a smart one

They got the name right.

John Gruber on the new HP’s new “Envy” notebooks.

I mean, just look at them for Chrissakes. I wonder if HP tried to license the Apple logo?

Pathetic and shameful.

Adobe Kills Mobile Flash Project

I hope this is true.

parislemon:

How dare Steve Jobs say Flash sucks on mobile! It’s going to be perfected any day now! And when that happens — again, very soon — the iPhone is so fucked!

LOL.

The best stories are always the ones that read like Onion articles — but aren’t.

This plus an Apogee Jam really is cool.

Garagebands never had it so easy.
Garageband now works on the iPhone. $4.99. Astonishing if you think about it.

What I Learned From Steve Jobs -Guy Kawasaki- MyVenturePad

Some good advice from Guy.

shaneguiter:

Many people have explained what one can learn from Steve Jobs. But few, if any, of these people have been inside the tent and experienced first hand what it was like to work with him. I don’t want any lessons to be lost or forgotten, so here is my list of the top twelve lessons that I learned from Steve Jobs.

  1. Experts are clueless.

  2. Customers cannot tell you what they need.

  3. Jump to the next curve.

  4. The biggest challenges beget best work.

  5. Design counts.

  6. You can’t go wrong with big graphics and big fonts.

  7. Changing your mind is a sign of intelligence.

  8. “Value” is different from “price.”

  9. A players hire A+ players.

  10. Real CEOs demo.

  11. Real CEOs ship.

  12. Marketing boils down to providing unique value.
