What a wild ride so far. I’ve learned so much already. The biggest breakthrough so far is that not only do you not try and paint the details, you totally ignore them at the start. In your mind you blur them out, and look for simple shapes of similar value and you lay those down. You “block it out.” Afterwards you start refining those blocks (sections/shapes).
